Heading toward $4 by the Fourth

Some time back I predicted $4 for gasoline in the Ozarks by the Fourth and $6 by New Year's Day. You can find that prediction in the archives if you're interested.

Gasoline reached $3.799 at gas stations in Rolla this week, although I saw one station charging $3.789.

On May 14, my former colleague in the news bidness, Bill E. Morrison, now a resident of Chicago, wrote this e-mail to me:

Today is the day I paid more than $4 for a gallon of gasoline. On my way home from work, I stopped at a station in the 'burbs where I paid $4.05 per gallon. In the city, gas is at $4.09 per gallon.
The RDH crystal ball seems to have given a clear picture of the future of gasoline prices.

We need to start drilling for oil right here in the United States immediately.

Another record high

Well, I filled up my gas tank today and paid $3.699 per gallon for it. The price rose to that record level yesterday. I drive an old Chevrolet Corsica and it cost me $50 and some change to fill it up. We need to start drilling for oil and building refineries. The president may believe we are "addicted to oil," but that is silliness. Oil is the lifeblood of our economic engine. We've got to have it. Do you think you can survive without it? I'd be interested in hearing your opinions.

New high for gasoline in Rolla

Gasoline reached $3.599 in Rolla today. If you'll look at previous posts you'll see my predictions for the future of gasoline prices. I may have been too conservative, the way fuel is trending.
