Nov. 3

The Doolittle Fire Department will host the 17th annual Benefit Bluegrass Show and Auction at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3. On the program: the Firehouse Gang, Piney River Band, Rowden Review, Midnight Flight, Beverly ’s Hillbillies and Cedar Hill. The music starts at 4 p.m. with the Firehouse Gang, followed by the auction at 5 p.m. The bluegrass music returns to the stage at 6:30 and will continue for several hours.

 

Nov. 7, 21

Bluegrass jam sessions are held on the first and third Wednesday of each month at the Missouri Veterans Home in St. James. Starting time is 6:30 p.m. All pickers and listeners are welcome. Take Interstate 44 to the St. James exit. The veterans home is on the southeast coner of the intersection. Go the front door and find the jam session on the left.

Ozark Actors Theatre will present Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas” Call the box office at 364-9523 for ticket prices and showtimes.

 

Nov. 9

Bluegrass jam sessions are held on the second Friday of each month at Christ Community Church , South Outer Road on the eastern Rolla exit, Interstate 44. The jams start at 7 p.m.

 

Nov. 12

Ozark Rivers Audubon will present a program on Isla Pajaros ( Bird Island ) by Lorraine McFarland, chapter president. McFarland will present a slide show of her trip to see the birds of Isla Pajaros , Mexico .  She will also have photos and information on the people and the culture of Isla Holbox and Isla Mujeres off Mexico 's Yucatan peninsula.  The meeting is on Monday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. at the Rolla Visitor Center on Bridge School Road .  The chapter will provide light refreshments.  This program is free and open to the public.  For more info contact Cathy at 341-2464 or e-mail her at cathyp@rollanet.org. Nov. 13

Phelps County Sesquicentennial Day will begin at 10 a.m. Music and a patriotic ceremony are planned. Cake and punch will be served. For information, call the Phelps County Courthouse, (573) 458-6000.

UMR Wind and Percussion Ensemble will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Leach Theatre. Call the box office at 341-4219 for ticket prices.

 

Nov. 17

Join the Ozark Rivers Audubon Chapter of the National Audubon Society in a very special member appreciation outing on Saturday, Nov.17.  The chapter is sponsoring a birding outing to the World Bird Sanctuary outside of Gray Summit.  After bird-watching, the group will participate in a special "behind the scenes" tour of the Sanctuary. The World Bird Sanctuary's mission is to preserve the earth's biological diversity and to secure the future of threatened bird species in their natural environments. They work to fulfill that mission through education, captive breeding, field studies and rehabilitation.  The World Bird Sanctuary (WBS) is one of North America 's largest facilities for the conservation of birds. WBS is on the leading edge of public awareness regarding the plight of bird species worldwide. The bird-watching group will leave the Rolla Kroger parking lot at 5 a.m.  If you want to participate in only the special tour, meet at the Rolla Kroger parking lot for departure at 8 a.m.  The special tour is limited to 20 participants. Ozark Rivers Chapter members will have priority and should RSVP to Lorraine at 364-3339 or birdymac@embarqmail.com by Nov. 14. Non-members will then be allowed to make a reservation on a space available basis

 

Bluegrass jam sessions are held on the third Friday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Doolittle firehouse.

 

Nov. 23, 24, 29, 30

Pulaski Fine Arts Association’s Theatre on the Square in downtown Waynesville will present “A Dickens’ Christmas Carol: A Traveling Travesty in Two Tumultuous Acts.” Curtain times are at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $7 each ($5 for children 12 and younger). Tickets are available at Reznicek Dental Group, Pulaski County Tourism Bureau and Caffe Italia in Waynesville. For information, call Laura Milner, 433-5876. PFAA's Theatre on the Square presents four shows each season. Visit the website at www.pfaa.org

Dec. 7-19

Christmas in the Park will be celebrated at Rolla Lions Club Park from 6-9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 6-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 7-19. The park is located on Highway 63 south in Rolla. Anyone interested in display space should call Lioness Dena Hope, (573) 578-1750.

 

Dec. 8

The Rolla Kiwanis Noon Club will present its seventh annual Ozark Christmas at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8,  in Leach Theatre, Castleman Hall, University of Missouri-Rolla , 10th Street in Rolla. The show will feature the Ozark Christmas Band, Grace Caudill and Fred Allison, Rowden Review, Ozark Spirit Cloggers, Ozark Christmas Choir, UMR Joe Miner, Chestnut the Christmas Pony and Santa Claus. Tickets are $10 (under 6 years free) and area available at Kroger, The Family Center, Central Federal Savings and Loan, Phelps County and Town and Country Bank, as well as the Leach Theatre Box Office.
